Fairu gets DMCA workflow and UI upgrades

Fairu

With the latest update, Fairu now allows users to submit copyright infringement reports directly through the platform. We’ve also introduced several UI refinements across the app to enhance the overall user experience.

How to manage copyright infringement claims via fairu

Fairu is committed to protecting copyrights and ensuring lawful content usage. This is reflected not only in our ability to attach detailed copyright notices to every file, but also in the option to add licensing agreements that control how and when files can be accessed or displayed.

With our latest update, we are expanding Fairu’s copyright protection capabilities with an important new feature. This enhancement consists of two key components.

With the new DMCA feature, Fairu now enables users to submit (including suspected) copyright complaints directly within the platform. These reports can be managed, reviewed, and responded to seamlessly inside Fairu.

While DMCA traditionally refers to U.S. law, we use the term as a general acronym for handling copyright-related complaints, even regardless of jurisdiction.

What does it include?

As mentioned, the feature consists of two parts. The first component is a dedicated submission form, accessible at fairu.app/dmca-report. The form requires only a few details and automatically assigns each report to the correct customer account. It even detects custom domains and routes the complaint accordingly.

Submitting the form initiates an automated process:
If the customer does not respond to the report within 30 days, the file in question will be blocked to minimize potential legal exposure for our customers.

If the complaint turns out to be unfounded, the customer can reject it—immediately ending the process.

The second part of the feature is located in the DMCA section within Fairu. Here, users can view all incoming complaints and respond to them directly. Fairu allows the user to reply to the complainant, manage the conversation, and assign a status to each case.

If the user agrees that the complaint is valid, they can update the status accordingly. In this case, the asset will be automatically blocked as an initial step, ensuring swift and compliant handling of the report.

In combination with the blocking feature, this also prevents repeated uploads of the same asset, helping avoid recurring copyright violations.

API available

The entire functionality can also be accessed through the GraphQL API, allowing both the complaint form and the handling logic to be integrated into a custom user interface.

UI/UX Improvements

Renaming

The quick-access renaming feature for files has existed for some time. However, one thing that consistently bothered us was that the file extension was always included in the editable name, requiring users to manually remove it before renaming.

We’ve now resolved this issue. File extensions are handled intelligently, making renaming more convenient and precise than ever.

Image Sizes

We’ve made a significant UI improvement to how files are displayed within folders. You can now adjust the thumbnail size manually using a slider located above the file list. This setting is user-specific and saved automatically, so you won’t have to readjust it each time.

Additionally, when holding the CMD key, you can hover over an image to see an enlarged preview—making browsing and reviewing images even more efficient.

Additional Functionality Updates

Our automated video processing pipeline has already been live for two weeks. By default, it generates three versions of each video—low, medium, and high—providing greater flexibility when it comes to bandwidth and playback performance.

For even more adaptive streaming, the HLS Feature Add-on allows you to enable HTTP Live Streaming. With HLS activated, video playback can dynamically adjust to the viewer’s network conditions for a smoother experience.
