AI Everywhere: How WeAreDevelopers Showcased the Future of Intelligent Software

12. Juli 2025
News

Since yesterday, WeAreDevelopers has officially come to an end—and just like in previous years, it was a truly special event. This time, however, one topic clearly stole the show: artificial intelligence.

It was no surprise—and something we had already anticipated—that AI would dominate this year’s event. The massive leaps made in recent months, particularly around MCP (Model Context Protocol), were clearly reflected in the keynotes, workshops, and software solutions presented. Spread across 13 stages, these innovations were unveiled to an audience of no less than 50,000 attendees.

So it came as no surprise that the event kicked off with industry giants like GitHub showcasing the current state of the art with Copilot. Although the demo gods weren't entirely on their side—there were a few hiccups during the live presentation—you could already sense the direction things are heading. Agentic AI is taking center stage, and its impact is unmistakable: it's accelerating everything.

We genuinely feel this momentum ourselves. With the collective power of our team enhanced by AI, we're working faster, smarter, and more purposefully than ever before. AI now routinely reviews our pull requests—including those for fairu.app—and helps us identify and resolve bottlenecks and issues before they ever reach production.

AI didn’t just dominate the WeAreDevelopers keynotes—it was also deeply embedded in many of the software solutions showcased throughout the event. We took full advantage of the hands-on opportunities and spent a lot of time exploring the tools on-site. In doing so, we discovered some real gems—goose, for example, stood out as a particularly exciting find.

What was equally encouraging was seeing how local players are increasingly integrating MCP (Model Context Protocol) into their software offerings. It's clear that this shift isn’t limited to global tech giants—innovation is happening at every level.

What Else Was There?

While AI was undoubtedly omnipresent, the conference also delivered a range of inspiring and classically tech-focused talks. From a deep dive into Lynx by senior TikTok developers to fresh insights on React Native that sparked new ideas for our own projects—there was no shortage of inspiration.

One particularly striking realization came from a talk on web technologies: the web continues to be dominated by a single programming language that is 100% backward compatible—for better or worse. It was a reminder of how much legacy and innovation constantly collide in our field.

Is WeAreDevelopers Worth Attending?

If you ask Astrid, the answer is a resounding yes. Aside from returning home with a suitcase full of swag—and one slightly odd detour into Berlins coffee house culture (if you wanna call it that ;-) )—the event was, above all, one thing: an inspiration.

An inspiration to keep our eyes open to the rapid evolution that began just a few years ago. To not fear being replaced by AI, but to embrace the opportunity to build something remarkable with it. Yes, the quality of talks varied—and in some areas, it may not have quite matched the previous year—but WeAreDevelopers ultimately delivered on its core promise: bringing bright minds together and sparking a wave of ideas and motivation.

At the end of the last WeAreDevelopers we attended, I asked myself whether Sushi Dev would return for another round. I'm glad we did.

As mentioned above, we’re heading home with a whole bag full of ideas and practical solutions—or rather, we haven’t slept much over the past few days because we’ve already started experimenting and putting things into action.

See you next year!
